Juvenile Diabetes Research

TELUS is donating $1.2 million to fund Canadian-based research seeking a cure for juvenile diabetes and is the title sponsor of the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes. In the summer of 2008, more than 60 communities across Canada participated in the walk.

A local campaign committee supported participation and fundraising for each walk. More than 3,000 TELUS team members, retirees, family and friends took part in the walk and raised in excess of $525,000, which TELUS matched dollar for dollar. In total, 45,000 people participated in the walks. In November 2008, to celebrate National Diabetes Awareness Month, the JDRF announced nearly $8 million was raised through the TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes in 2008.

This partnership is a testament to TELUS' overall community investment approach, which is focused on youth, technology and health and well-being in our environment, and our broader health care strategy. We plan to continue growing our partnership with JDRF over the next two years.
