Vancouver 2010 – Work Styles In Motion

Vancouver 2010 – Work Styles In Motion

The 2010 Olympic Winter Games provided our team an important opportunity to demonstrate our Work Styles program in action by embracing telecommuting and taking 1,000 vehicles off the streets of Vancouver. Highlights based on a survey completed by team members after the games include:

  • 65 per cent worked from home, took public transit, carpooled, biked or walked to work
  • 93 per cent said these work style changes have been positive
  • 80 per cent indicated they plan to or would like to continue working from home or take part in our Smart Commute program.

In addition to the personal benefits for team members, Work Styles program provides benefits for companies and for the environment. TELUS’s smart telecommuting solutions coupled with our powerful wireless and wireline broadband networks enable companies to optimize their business performance in terms of efficiency, productivity and continuity of business operations in the face of natural disasters or pandemics. Furthermore, it helps to ease traffic congestion, which was critical during the 2010 Olympics, and reduces carbon dioxide emissions. For example, it was estimated that team members reduced carbon dioxide emissions during the 18 days by an impressive 200 metric tonnes.
