At the prestigious 15th Annual IR Magazine Canada Awards in Toronto, the TELUS team was in the spotlight, picking up awards for the best financial reporting across all industries and best overall investor relations in the telecommunications sector (ahead of Rogers and BCE). TELUS was ranked fourth overall in the list of top 50 companies, based on the results of telephone surveys conducted by IR Magazine, with more than 250 investment professionals across Canada. And John Wheeler, vice-president, Investor Relations, received the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in Investor Relations.
“It was a great night for the TELUS team,” says Robert McFarlane, executive vice-president and chief financial officer. “John has been instrumental in leading efforts that have resulted in TELUS consistently achieving worldwide recognition for our leading financial performance and our ability to deliver the best economic results amongst our global telecom peers. He has also helped TELUS earn considerable recognition for the excellence of our financial reporting, investor website and shareholder communications in Canada as well as internationally for many years. More important than these considerable achievements is how John did all of this. John exemplifies the best of TELUS values and I am proud to have been his colleague over this past decade.”
For more than 20 years, John has provided TELUS with significant insight and guidance, helping our company transform and grow from a regional telephone provider to the national and global entity we are today. TELUS’ annual report has been ranked amongst the top 10 in the world for the last eight years and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants has honoured us with the Overall Award of Excellence for Corporate Reporting for four out of the last five years.
“While I am very honoured to have my name on this award, it is very much a shared award,” says John. “It reflects the outstanding work done by the TELUS IR, Communications and Finance teams over an extended period as well as the incredible support of team members across the organization.”
